You are Two Sides to the Same Coin

While you are shadow, you are also spirit. You are both shadow and spirit. You are two sides to the same coin. Learn how to reconcile both sides of you. Learn how to integrate the shadow with your spirit.

The Rejector Shadow

You have been betrayed in the past. The pain that you have hidden from the world is sharp, deep, and heavy. People don’t know just how the heartbreak changed you because you have put on a mask of strength after surviving your past. However, your mask is a self-defensive mechanism where anybody who tries to get too close to you, you will push away or reject eventually because you know longer want to risk the pain that comes with giving away your unconditional trust and intimacy to someone who could possibly abuse it again. It is not that you don’t want connection. It is that you are aware that every person is flawed in some way, so sooner or later the flaws will show. If those flaws are harmful to you, you don’t want to be stuck in a relationship where you put yourself in harms way again, so it’s best to push people way or at least keep them at an arm’s distance.

The Acceptor Spirit

You love and value family, despite the brokenness of it all. You want to become a homeowner, but more importantly you want to build a home, a nuclear family of your own. You are an animal lover, because sometimes you can empathize more with dogs and cats more than humans. You respect other people’s opinions, even if it contradicts yours, and you have peace around those differences because you have a high level of respect for others and for their process. You are looking to transmute your pain into a passion for good. You want to see yourself grow in spiritual and emotional maturity. You want to increase your self-esteem, self-respect, and self-love.

Your Spirit's Calling

You are looking for a purpose-driven life. You want to live in a world where people feel welcomed for their diverse opinions and their differences. You seek the path of non-judgement and acceptance. You seek happiness and life purpose fulfillment.

You are Two Sides to the Same Coin

Artist & Journal-Artist Inspired

1. Activate Your Subconscious

Practice deep listening to activate subconscious by browsing Journal by Shadow or Journal by Spirit to discover experiences that resonate with you. Then, pull quote of things you resonate with into your journal.

Don’t forget to give attribution to artist or journal-artist where you pulled the quote from.

2. Title and Format Journal Entry

“Title of Journal Entry”

Fiction. Based on a True __________.

by Your Name

3. Ways to Journal (choose one):

A. “The Passion Letter”—Write as if you are writing directly to that person.
B. “Message in a Bottle”—Write as if you need to confess something.
C. “The Novelist” —Someone tore a page out of your novel based on your past—what would they be reading?

These are options, not requirements. Write any way you want since this is your diary.

Journaling in the First "I" to Reveal the Reality of your Duality

“The Flashback” or “The Scene” or “The Narrative Novelist”

You can journal about a direct experience by taking us to the “scenes of the incident.” This is in the narrative form, as if we read a page in a novel or novella. Feel free to add personal flashbacks, backstory, and any other narrative scenes worthy of the “insider’s” attention. Write like you are confiding to a trusted best friend.

“The Passion Letter”

This is a direct love letter, perhaps to the very person who has been tucked away inside your heart, the person you miss, the person you want to honor the memory of, or the person you hate.

What’s been brewing inside your heart? You could be ashamed of it because of how bitter it is, you could feel guilty because of something that is already too late that you wished you could go back in time to fix, you could be too proud to have said it in front of them so you have walled up but since this is the confession letter, it is something you have been truly feeling inside that you are addressing directly to them. Of course, this is just an exercise. Do not actually send it to them or if you do, do it at your own discretion. This exercise is solely designed for you to purge the things that’s been weighing you down. What you do with it is up to you.

Write from the heart. Write in the first.

“Love Letter to Self”

This is a personal love letter to your past, present, and/or future self. What lessons have you learned? What mistakes of the past are you no longer wanting to repeat in the present and future? What things need resolving right now? What hopes and dreams do you have for yourself in the future?

If you can travel back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?

If your future self could time travel to you right now, what would your future self say?

If you can travel to the future, what would you like to see yourself doing and becoming?

“Message in a Bottle”

If you were stranded on an island and decided you have nothing but time to reflect on life, what would you be saying? This can be life lessons, insights, and free flow thinking. It can be a free verse, a poem, a rant, anything goes.

The Spiritual War Between The Shadow and Spirit Within

“Unfortunately there can be no doubt that man is, on the whole, less good than he imagines himself or wants to be. Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. If an inferiority is conscious, one always has a chance to correct it. Furthermore, it is constantly in contact with other interests, so that it is continually subjected to modifications. But if it is repressed and isolated from consciousness, it never gets corrected.”

What is The Mirror Darkly?

Welcome to the Mirror Darkly Journaling Workshop:

“The Mirror Darkly” is the beginning of shadow work and is inspired by 1 Corinthians 13:12 in The Holy Bible:

For now we see a reflection, as in a mirror.

Then we shall see face to face.

For now I know in part, then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

We believe that the Mirror Darkly reflects the Mystery of love — Agape Love—it is hidden in plain sight and is both pervasive and unseen. However, with loving eyes,

the unseen things, once hidden, begin revealing itself, and that is when one is able to begin feeling and deeply healing.

The Power of Mirrors

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known..”

—1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV

Resurrection Power

The Phoenix dies in fire and is reborn a New Bird from the Ashes of Destruction. This fire bird has the ability to cycle through past, present, and future through the power of resurrection—it allows what is to be what is, then allowing it to destruct, and manages to take the silver linings of that destruction to create a new creature. In Chinese mythology, it is the Phoenix that contends with the Dragon.

In Shadow Integration, the Phoenix inside you will contend with the Dragon inside you. This is the dance battle of spiritual warfare. The faith you experience will be the faith in the power of redemption in a future glory of the Phoenix born out of the ashes of fire. The fear you contend with will be the dragon you have been divinely designed to defeat.
